Arrival in Leh – Visit Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace (Evening)

Experience a breathtaking flight over the majestic Himalayas, where you’ll be treated to stunning views of snow-capped peaks like Stok Kangri and the Nun-Kun Massif. As your plane descends, take in the panoramic sight of Leh town, dotted with ancient monasteries, stupas, and the iconic Leh Palace.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by a Kailash Expeditions representative and transferred to your hotel. After a refreshing welcome tea or coffee, spend the day resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude of Leh (approximately 3,500 meters). This rest is essential to help your body adjust to the thinner air and avoid altitude sickness.

In the late afternoon, health permitting, embark on a gentle drive to visit the serene Shanti Stupa, a beautiful white-domed Buddhist monument offering spectacular views of Leh and the surrounding mountains. Spend some peaceful moments here before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.

    Altitude Awareness:
The dramatic descent into Leh can cause mild ear discomfort due to the altitude change. It is important to stay well hydrated, drink plenty of water, and avoid smoking for at least two days to ensure a comfortable acclimatization process.

Hall of Fame, Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib & Sangam Point

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, embark on an exciting day tour covering some of Ladakh’s most iconic sites. Begin with a visit to the Hall of Fame, a tribute built by the Indian Army to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War. This museum offers deep insights into the region’s military history and patriotic spirit.

Next, proceed to Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, located about 40 km from Leh. This historic Sikh shrine, established in 1571, commemorates Guru Nanak’s visit to the area and stands as a symbol of peace and faith.

Experience the mystifying Magnetic Hill, a natural wonder where vehicles appear to defy gravity by moving uphill with the engine turned off — an optical illusion that feels almost magical.

Continue your journey to Sangam Point at Nimu, where the pristine Zanskar and Indus rivers converge. Here, adventure seekers can enjoy thrilling rafting on the Zanskar River, surrounded by breathtaking mountain landscapes.

In the late afternoon, return to Leh to relax and explore the local market if you wish. Conclude the day with a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel.

  • 3

Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La (125 km)

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Leh to the stunning Nubra Valley via Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world at 18,380 feet. The drive takes you through winding zig-zag trails, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, proceed to Hundar village and check into your hotel or camp.

In the afternoon, soak in the unique beauty of the sand dunes and enjoy a memorable double-humped Bactrian camel ride — a truly iconic Nubra experience. Spend the night at your camp or hotel amid the tranquil valley surroundings.

Khardung La Pass: The journey to Nubra Valley crosses Khardung La Pass, approximately 39 km from Leh. This historic pass features two military checkpoints on either side. Khardung village, the first settlement in Nubra Valley, sits at a higher altitude than Deskit and other nearby villages.

Deskit Village: Serving as the administrative center of Nubra Valley, Deskit hosts a small market and the impressive Deskit Gompa monastery perched atop a hill. The monastery offers spectacular views of the valley below.

Deskit Gompa: Founded around 1420 AD by Lama Sherab Zangpo during the reign of King Dragspa, Deskit Gompa houses about 100 monks and is affiliated with the Thiksey Monastery. The annual Gustor festival, celebrated on the 20th and 21st days of the 12th Tibetan month, is a vibrant cultural highlight.

Hundar Village: Nestled among lush trees, Hundar is a picturesque village with a small monastery and a ruined fort overlooking the area. A two-hour camel safari or walk from Hundar to Deskit through the sand dunes offers a remarkable adventure at your own pace.
