Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization and Evening Visit to Shanti Stupa & Leh Palace
Experience a breathtaking flight over the majestic Himalayas, where you’ll witness stunning snow-capped peaks such as Stok Kangri and the Nun-Kun Massif. As your plane descends, the panoramic view of Leh town unfolds—with its ancient monasteries, sacred stupas, and the iconic Leh Palace standing proudly amidst the landscape.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Kailash Expeditions and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a refreshing welcome tea or coffee before taking the rest of the day to fully acclimatize to the high altitude of Leh (3,500 meters). Rest is essential to help your body adjust and avoid altitude sickness.
In the late afternoon, if your health permits, embark on a gentle drive to visit the peaceful Shanti Stupa, a white-domed monument offering spectacular views over Leh and the surrounding mountains. This serene spot is perfect for a calming evening experience as the sun sets.
Altitude Awareness: The dramatic descent into Leh may cause mild ear discomfort due to the altitude change. To ease this, stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoid smoking for at least two days.
Return to your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay, preparing you for the adventures ahead.
2
Excursion to Hall of Fame, Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib & Sangam Point
After breakfast at your hotel, embark on a fascinating day tour covering some of Ladakh’s most iconic and spiritually significant sites. Your first stop is the Hall of Fame, a poignant museum and memorial established by the Indian Army to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War. This site offers deep insight into the region’s military history and is a must-visit for every patriotic traveler.
Next, visit the Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, located about 40 kilometers from Leh. Built in 1571, this sacred Sikh shrine commemorates the visit of Guru Nanak to the region and stands as a symbol of peace and harmony.
Then, experience the fascinating phenomenon at Magnetic Hill, where vehicles appear to defy gravity by moving uphill with the engine off — an optical illusion that never fails to amaze visitors.
Afterwards, proceed to Sangam Point at Nimu, the confluence of the mighty Zanskar and Indus rivers. Here, adventure seekers can enjoy thrilling rafting experiences on the Zanskar River, surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
Return to Leh by afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening at your leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.
3
Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La (125 km)
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the enchanting Nubra Valley via the Khardung La Pass—the highest motorable road in the world at 18,380 feet. The thrilling zig-zag trail takes you through breathtaking mountain landscapes before arriving at Hundar Village, your destination for the day.
Upon arrival, check into your hotel or camp and spend the afternoon exploring the striking sand dunes nearby. Don’t miss the unique experience of a double-hump Bactrian camel ride across the golden sands—an unforgettable adventure in this serene desert landscape.
Khardung La Pass: This legendary pass lies about 39 km from Leh and marks the gateway to Nubra Valley. It’s guarded by two checkpoints on either side, ensuring smooth transit. Khardung is the first village you encounter in Nubra Valley, situated at a higher altitude than Deskit and other villages.
Deskit Village: As the administrative headquarters of Nubra Valley, Deskit features a quaint market and the centuries-old Deskit Gompa, founded around 1420 AD by Lama Sherab Zangpo. The monastery, home to about 100 monks, offers spectacular valley views and hosts the vibrant Gustor festival annually in the Tibetan calendar’s 12th month.
Hundar Village: Known for its lush trees and peaceful ambiance, Hundar is a perfect place to relax. The village has a small monastery and the ruins of an ancient fort overlooking the area. For the adventurous, a camel safari or walk from Hundar to Deskit through sand dunes is a wonderful way to explore the valley (optional and on your own).
Enjoy your overnight stay in this magical valley, surrounded by stunning nature and unique cultural heritage.
4
Diskit / Hunder / Pangong Lake (via Shayok) / Leh
Start your day early with a visit to the famous Diskit Monastery, where you can soak in breathtaking panoramic views of the Nubra Valley. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to the mesmerizing Pangong Lake via the picturesque Shayok River route.
Pangong Lake, renowned for its stunning turquoise waters set against a backdrop of majestic mountains, offers a surreal and tranquil experience that will leave you spellbound. Explore popular photo spots, including the iconic location from the movie "3 Idiots", and take a leisurely stroll along the lake’s edge as you soak in the calming beauty of nature.
After an unforgettable day at Pangong, drive back to Leh for a restful overnight stay at your hotel, reflecting on the spectacular sights and serene landscapes you’ve witnessed.
