Katra Vaishno Devi, sheltered in the picturesque Trikuta Mountains of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the holiest Hindu places of pilgrimage in India. From Katra, a small town from the foothills, pilgrims trek to the Vaishno Devi temple, 12 kilometers of lush forests, tight passages and breathtaking scenery, to finally reach the shrine at an altitude of 5,200 feet.
This is a temple devoted to Goddess Vaishno who is said to contain all three energies of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kali, and so is of high spiritual value. Along the route, devotees are said to be at peace and full of devotion. At various holy places, they tend to sit for some time, resting and praying. It is physically and mentally fulfilling, and a trek into it is an experience that does not only satisfy one's religious sense but also submerges him into the beautiful and serene environment surrounding it.
