The temple stands atop a hill, and there is a steep staircase to be climbed to reach it. Its serenity along with the terrific scenery makes it a must-visited viewpoint.
Hanuman Tok is one of the prominent temples at an altitude of 7,200 feet. Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the temple is not just a place of sanctity but also provides the most spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayas and Kanchenjunga range. The Indian Army runs this temple, and cleanliness is seen here as well. The serene ambiance and scintillating views make it a hot spot among devotees as well as nature lovers.
Tashi Namgyal, the King of Sikkim, constructed Tashi Viewpoint with breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset over the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu are seen from the viewpoint. On clear days, the views look spectacular in golden rays of the sun on the peaks. Banjhakri Falls stands over a forest park, its rich green surroundings drawing in a heavy waterfall. That's actually named after the mythical healer who can be found in Nepali mythology. The park is dedicated to this local legend and features sculptures and exhibits portraying the Shamanic culture of the Sikkimese people. For all history and culture lovers, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a treasure house that carries knowledge about the entire subject of art and Tibetan religion and their history. The institute was founded in 1958 as a research center to preserve and study Tibetan art and culture. It contains a museum with a rich collection of rare manuscripts, Buddhist icons, thangkas, and ritual objects. Its architecture is a mix of traditional styles of Tibet and Sikkim, hence very beautiful.
The best seasons to visit Gangtok are during spring and autumn; that is, from March to June and September to December. This season has mild temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F) and is ideal for tourists to tour the vibrant rhododendron blooms. The clear sky and warm temperatures between 5°C and 20°C (41°F to 68°F) make autumn an ideal time to witness the grandeur of Kanchenjunga at its best.
Outdoor events are also preferred during this season, but that apart, off-season travel remains relatively less crowded despite the incessant rains between July and August blocking the roads. Winter, from December to February, was tranquil with temperatures dropping to almost 0°C or 32°F; it was a great season for snow lovers, especially the town nearby.
