Bekal is a fascinating coastal town in northern Kerala, India, comprising rich history, spectacular natural beauty, and a very vibrant culture. Located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, Bekal was primarily famous due to one structure: the Bekal Fort, which is one of the biggest and best-preserved forts in Kerala and takes up an area of 37 acres.
It is a 17th-century structure built by Shivappa Nayaka of Bednore, on the scenic cliff that offers panoramic views of the coastline and the landscape around it. Its tall walls, watchtowers, and intricate architecture bring to one's mind its importance in history.
