Madurai to Rameswaram – A Sacred Pilgrimage Begins

Following breakfast, check out of your Madurai hotel and drive thereafter to Rameswaram, yet another most sacred pilgrim destination for the Hindus and a part of the Char Dham Yatra. Situated on Pamban Island, Rameswaram is full of myth and religious reverence as being the site where Lord Rama had constructed the bridge to Lanka.

After reaching there, do visit the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, a modern architectural wonder constructed in the memory of Lord Sree Rama. Known for its complicated corridors—the longest ever in any Hindu temple in India—ornate pillars, and handsomely sculpted walls, the temple is both a spiritual and aesthetic wonder. Devotees throng here to undertake holy rituals and a holy bath at the 22 sacred wells considered to cleanse the soul.

The devotional atmosphere of the temple, its mythological and historical importance, make Rameswaram an intensely enriching experience. Enjoy the peaceful sea atmosphere and devotional energies that permeate the town.

Information: Admission for big vehicles such as buses is prohibited within the boundaries of Rameswaram town, and accordingly, last drops can be arranged.

At dusk, retire at your hotel for an overnight stay under peaceful and spiritual calm on this holy island.

Rameswaram to Kanyakumari – Where Oceans and Cultures Converge

Post-breakfast, leave your hotel in Rameswaram and drive to Kanyakumari, the southernmost point of the Indian mainland where Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean converge. This magical town is not just naturally distinctive but also spiritually and culturally distinctive, providing an unforgettable sunrise and sunset over the sea experience.

On your arrival, start your sightseeing by visiting Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a peaceful monument erected over a rock island in commemoration of Swami Vivekananda, who was here meditating before undertaking his world spiritual tour. A picturesque boat ride to the rock offers an opportunity to see ocean landscapes and a peaceful setting.

Then, visit the Gandhi Memorial, constructed at the very site where ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were stored prior to immersion.
