Overview

Hold up, you ready for this? North East India ain’t your average getaway—it’s chaos and beauty mashed up into nine wild nights. Four spots: Darjeeling, Pelling, Gangtok, Lachung. If your dream vacay is sipping a sad mojito by a pool, scroll on, friend. This one's for the explorers, tea nerds, and all you “let’s just wander and see what breaks” types.

Darjeeling kicks things off. Those rolling tea mountains you’ve seen in every sappy Bollywood flick? Not even kidding, they’re ten times better in real life. Tiger Hill at sunrise—drag your half-asleep self up there. You’ll get it once that sun cracks the sky. Into mountaineering heroes? Swing by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, geek out all you want. Or just hop on that ropeway, let your jaw drop at the Himalayas flexin’ for the camera.

Next stop: Pelling. Chill levels off the charts. Kanchenjunga’s just straight-up lurking in the background, like “yeah, I’m majestic, whatever.” The Skywalk? It’s a glass bridge over nothing. Feels like a dare from a drunk friend. Snap a pic if you don’t chicken out. The Pemayangtse Monastery will zen you out, and Khecheopalri Lake? Legend says make a wish, see what happens. Couldn’t hurt, right?

Then there’s Gangtok—Sikkim’s beating heart. It’s got that mountain-town-meets-mystic-vibes thing going on. Tsomgo Lake is basically a screensaver—icy blue, yaks just chillin’ like they own the place. Baba Mandir? Feels sacred, snowy, piney, and honestly, you might just accidentally find inner peace.

Lachung is where Mother Nature goes full show-off. Yumthang Valley, aka “Valley of Flowers,” turns the color dial up to eleven. Wildflowers, hot springs, rhododendrons crowding the place—if you’re not grinning like an idiot, you might be broken inside.

Wrap it all up back in Gangtok. Dump your phone pics, sigh dramatically, wish you could stay forever. Whether you’re chasing adventure, a spiritual tune-up, or just trying to hear yourself think, this trip straight-up delivers.

AlxTrip put this together for people who’d rather listen to birds than traffic, who want a little real-world magic. So yeah, pack light, ditch your plans, trust the mountains to do their thing. You’ll come back changed. No cap.

NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport – Darjeeling (75 Kms / 3 Hrs)

Alright, picture this: you roll up at New Jalpaiguri or Bagdogra (whichever—doesn’t matter), and bam, there’s our guy, grinning and waving like he’s meeting an old friend. Forget stressing about getting lost in a sea of people.

You’re scooped up and off you go, weaving through those crazy mountain roads—the kind where you wanna have your phone out, ‘cause every five minutes it’s like, “Wait, stop, I need to snap this.” Darjeeling’s not called the Queen of the Hills for nothing. Those tea gardens? Insane. The views? Like someone just copy-pasted them from a travel mag. And yeah, you’re almost 7,000 feet up, so get ready for your ears to do that weird pop thing.

Once you finally get to Darjeeling, just chuck your stuff in the hotel and do you. Wander the streets, grab some momos, just vibe with the mountain air, or honestly, flop on your bed and watch the clouds do their slow-motion parade outside the window. Zero pressure.

You’ll pass out at the hotel, no problem. Something about that crisp mountain air just knocks you right out—better than melatonin, swear.

Darjeeling Full Day Sightseeing with Tiger Hill

Set your alarm for an ungodly hour—seriously, 4:00 AM—because Tiger Hill waits for no one. If you’re lucky enough to snag a permit, you’ll catch that wild, jaw-dropping sunrise lighting up the snowy Kanchenjunga peaks. Totally worth the bleary eyes, trust me.

Stumble back to your hotel, grab some breakfast (and maybe a gallon of coffee), then hit the road again by 8:30. You’ve got a full day ahead, so don’t even think about crawling back into bed.

First up, swing by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park—unless it’s Thursday, in which case, maybe just peek through the gates and look disappointed. Then, channel your inner adventurer at Tenzing Rock, and hop on the Darjeeling Ropeway for some killer views of the valley. Snap a photo or twenty.

Next, check out the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre (just skip it if it’s Sunday; they’re closed and probably having a better day than you). Cruise past those rolling, green Tea Gardens—seriously, it’s like a desktop wallpaper come to life. Wrap things up at the Japanese Temple for some peace and quiet, unless you’re traveling with noisy friends.

Evening? Your call. Either go full chill mode or hit the markets for some local handicrafts—perfect excuse to buy stuff you don’t need.

Crash at your hotel in Darjeeling, and try not to dream about that 4 AM wake-up.

    Darjeeling – Pelling (80 Kms / 4 Hrs)

Alright, let’s be real—after you demolish that hotel buffet (and probably regret the third helping of pancakes), time to hit the road from Darjeeling to Pelling. And “road trip” doesn’t even cover it. It’s more like scrolling through Instagram, except it’s all happening right outside your window—lush hills, wild hairpin turns, random clouds just hanging out at eye level. You’ll zip past Singla Check Post, which, yeah, sounds kinda intense, but honestly, it’s just another excuse to stop and gawk at those epic views.

By the time you crawl into Pelling (hello, 6,300 feet—don’t be shocked if your ears do that weird popping thing), just drop your bags and breathe for a sec. After that? Whatever, man. Power nap? Yes. Aimless wandering? Why not. Or maybe just chill and let the mountain vibes do their thing. Zero pressure. Rest easy—Pelling’s got you covered tonight.

Pelling Full Day Sightseeing with Skywalk

Alright, so after you’ve demolished breakfast (don’t skip it, you’ll need the fuel), get ready for a whirlwind Pelling adventure. First stop: Darap Village. It’s one of those places that looks like it was plucked right out of a postcard—super chill, loads of culture, and locals who’ll probably out-smile you.

Next up, you’ll check out Rimbi Waterfalls. The sound alone could probably slap the stress out of you. Then there’s Khecheopalri Lake—locals call it the Wish-Fulfilling Lake. Go ahead, toss in a wish. Can’t hurt, right?

Keep your jaw handy because Khangchendzongha Waterfalls are next and, honestly, they’re ridiculous. Like, nature just showing off at this point. Later, you swing by Pemayangtse Monastery for a little peace and some serious history vibes, then wander over to the Rabdantse Ruins—imagine Sikkim’s Game of Thrones set, minus the dragons.

If you’re chasing a bit of a thrill, the Sang-Ngag Choling Skywalk’s got your back. Glass floors, wild views, maybe a little vertigo. Cap it all off at the New Helipad Ground. It’s basically a front-row seat to the Himalayas showing off their good side. After all that? Evening’s yours.

Go explore, collapse, whatever—just soak it in. Crash at your hotel in Pelling and dream of waterfalls or maybe just a bigger breakfast tomorrow.

  • 5

Pelling – Gangtok via Namchi (150 Kms. / 5 Hrs.)

So, once you’ve wolfed down breakfast (or, you know, just nursed a strong chai), it’s time to grab your stuff and hit the road—next stop: Gangtok, Sikkim’s buzzing capital. But hey, don’t just zoom past everything. Make a pit stop in Namchi.

The place is chill, with this kinda zen vibe, and seriously pretty views. You gotta check out the whole Siddheshwar Dham (locals call it Chardham), where they’ve built these wild replicas of India’s four sacred sites. Insta-worthy, honestly. And swing by the Sai Temple too—even if you’re not the spiritual type, it’s peaceful enough to make you forget your phone for five minutes.

After you’ve soaked all that in, hop back in the car. The drive’s pretty unreal—misty hills, those winding roads that make you want to blast an old Bollywood playlist and pretend you’re in a movie.

Eventually, you’ll roll into Gangtok (about 5,500 feet up, so breathe easy). Check in, drop your bags, and just chill for the rest of the evening. No big plans. Just kick back. You’ll crash at the hotel in Gangtok for the night—hopefully dreaming of mountains instead of your inbox.

Excursion to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir (53 Kms. / 3 Hrs. one-way)

Okay, so picture this: you’ve just demolished breakfast (because saying no to an extra paratha is basically a crime), and now it’s time for the real adventure—Tsomgo Lake. Not your average pond, trust me. We’re talking 12,400 freakin’ feet above sea level. Bring a jacket unless you’re looking to experience “human popsicle” vibes.

The whole place is tucked up in these insane, snow-blanketed mountains. Locals act like this lake is holy or something, and I kinda get it. Just standing there, you feel like you stumbled into some mythic postcard. It’s wild.

Take your time—snap a million photos, stare at the water until your face goes numb, whatever. Then, buckle up, because you’re heading even higher. Baba Mandir is next on the list. That’s 13,200 feet, in case your lungs weren’t already screaming. The place is all about Baba Harbhajan Singh, who’s basically local folklore come to life. Folks say there’s this whole mystical energy swirling around, and honestly, even if you’re just in it for the weird stories, you’ll wanna check it out.

After you’ve soaked up enough altitude and spiritual vibes, it’s back to Gangtok. Kick back, hunt down some momos (seriously, don’t leave without trying those), and just crash. You’ve totally earned the rest.

  • 7

    Gangtok – Lachung (116 Kms. / 6 Hrs.)

You wolf down breakfast—maybe snag a second cup of coffee if you’re feeling ambitious—then you chuck your bags together (travel light, trust me), and hit the road for Lachung. We’re talking 8,700 feet up in North Sikkim. The drive? Absolute stunner.

You’ll wanna stop every five minutes because, hello, there’s Naga Waterfall just throwing itself off the cliffs like it’s auditioning for a shampoo commercial. Then there’s Chungthang, where two rivers—Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu—basically have a dramatic meet-cute. And don’t even get me started on Bhim Nala Waterfall, which is, honestly, just showing off at this point.

Seriously, it’s the kind of scenery you see on postcards and think, “Eh, Photoshop.” But nope, it’s just Sikkim flexing. Take your time, breathe it in, snap a million photos, whatever. By the time you roll into Lachung, you’ll be ready to dump your stuff at the hotel, dig into some solid dinner, and pass out. That’s a day done right.

  • 8

Excursion to Yumthang Valley (26 Kms. / 1.5 Hrs. one-way)

So after you’ve scarfed down breakfast, you’re off to Yumthang Valley. I mean, come on, it’s not called the Valley of Flowers for nothing. Place is way up there—like, nosebleed-section high. If you’re not huffing and puffing at 12,000 feet, are you even trying? The scenery? Unreal.

Think screensaver-level, but, you know, real life. In the summertime, yaks act like they own the joint, just hanging out, mowing down the grass like it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet. And the locals? They’ll spin you some wild tales about yetis stomping around when the snow hits. True or not, it’s a vibe.

Heading back, you gotta hit up the hot springs. Supposedly these things can cure any ache or pain—honestly, might even fix your ex’s emotional damage. Just soak, zone out, and pretend you’re in a fancy spa, minus the price tag.

After you’re all pruney, roll back to your hotel, grab some lunch, and the afternoon’s basically a choose-your-own-adventure. Nap, wander around, doomscroll on your phone—no one’s judging. Dinner’s back at the hotel. Crash in Lachung and dream about yaks or yetis or whatever you’re into.

  • 9

    Lachung - Gangtok (116 Kms. / 6 Hrs.)

Grab some breakfast, say your goodbyes to Lachung, and hit the road to Gangtok (yeah, that’s the one chillin’ at 5,500 feet). Once you finally roll into town, drop your bags at the hotel—trust me, you’ll want to crash for a bit or just wander around and do your own thing.

The rest of the day? Totally yours. Kick back, explore, whatever. Just know you’re spending the night in Gangtok, so no rush.

  • 10

Gangtok - NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport (128 Kms. / 5 Hrs.)

Once you’ve devoured whatever breakfast you could wrangle (fingers crossed it wasn’t just bland toast), just chuck your stuff in your bags, do that awkward checkout dance at the hotel, and roll out to either New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport—whichever ticket you’re clutching.

That’s it. Time to peace out. But seriously, who’s actually gonna shake off those mad mountain views, the mashup of cultures, or that totally laid-back vibe? Yeah, not happening.

Travel safe—don’t be that person who loses their ticket! Swing by again, alright? There’s always something new to find, and trust me, those mountains are still gonna be here, doing their thing.
