Shimla is a charming blend of old-world charm and new-world amenities, with its signature retro look, hand-painted bazaars, and car-free Mall Road. After an 8-hour drive, spend some time relaxing and acclimatizing to the altitude, getting ready for the more challenging terrain of Spiti Valley.
In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll along Shimla's Mall Road, taking in the scenic beauty and local culture. This is only the start of your unforgettable journey to the heart of Himachal Pradesh.

Transfer from Shimla to Sangla – Scenic Himalayan Drive
On the second day of your Spiti Valley tour, take an unforgettable Himalayan road trip to Sangla. The journey is through 95 kilometers of breathtaking scenery, with the Baspa River gently flowing through green forested slopes, providing a peaceful and idyllic setting.
As you enter the Sangla Valley, the scenery unfolds, with its terraced fields and picturesque villages. Famous for its agriculture, Sangla is dotted with houses that are surrounded by orchards that cultivate apples, pears, walnuts, apricots, and potatoes, giving one a glimpse of the rural existence of this magical valley. Soak in the beauty and peace of this lovely destination.
3
Drive from Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa – Scenic Himalayan Delights
On the third day of your Spiti Valley tour, start your day with a serene breakfast while you soak up the sun's first rays. Next, drive towards Chitkul, which is one of the prettiest settlements in the valley and also the last village to be inhabited as you approach the India-China border.
The drives to and from Sangla to Chitkul provide some of the most gorgeous scenery, ideal for taking wonderful photographs. Relax along the Baspa River and offer prayers to the Mathi Goddess temple, worshipping the local deity.
After immersing yourself in the beauty and peace of Chitkul, proceed to Kalpa. Renowned for the breathtaking views of the Kinner-Kailash and Jorkandan peaks, Kalpa abounds in legend, believed to have been Lord Shiva's winter abode.
With its spectacular landscape, no wonder this peaceful village is regarded as a divine home. Spend an overnight stay in Kalpa, amidst the magnificence of the Himalayas.

Transfer from Kalpa to Tabo – A Thrilling Drive through the Hindustan-Tibet Highway
On the fourth day of your Spiti Valley journey, take a thrilling drive from Kalpa to Tabo on the famous Hindustan-Tibet Highway (NH 22), which is popularly referred to as one of the "most dangerous roads in the world" by Lonely Planet.
Though the ride might sound intimidating, don't worry, your experienced local drivers know these rough roads like the back of their hands. As you travel, observe the scenery change with the rich greens of the Kinnaur Valley yielding to the terracotta browns of the Spiti Valley. Stop briefly at Puh to refuel and then proceed to Nako, the final village of Kinnaur, before you reach the Spiti Valley.
Have a tasty lunch at Nako, and then move on via Sumdo, the initial Spiti village, before arriving at Tabo, which has one of the oldest and most important Buddhist monasteries. Overnight at a hotel in Tabo, with the magical Spiti Valley to follow in the days ahead.

Drive from Kaza – Pin Valley – Kungri – Mudh – Kaza – Nature's Wilderness and Beauty
On the fifth day of your Spiti Valley tour, prepare for an unforgettable journey to the stunning Pin Valley. Known for its rich biodiversity, Pin Valley National Park is a haven for nature enthusiasts, offering rare plant species, diverse wildlife, and trekking opportunities for adventure seekers.
Begin your day with a visit to the Kungri Monastery, followed by a trip to Mudh, the last motorable village in the Pin Valley. Declared a national park in 1987, Pin Valley is home to several endangered species, including the elusive snow leopard.
As you explore, keep an eye out for Siberian ibex, bharal, red fox, and marten, while the skies above are painted with griffons, golden eagles, and ravens. After experiencing the beauty of the valley, head back to Kaza, the commercial heart of Spiti Valley, and spend the night at a hotel.
6
Drive from Kaza – Langza – Hikkim – Komik – Ki Monastery – Kibber – Gette – Kaza – A Day of High Altitudes and Scenic Wonders
On the 6th day of this Spiti Valley tour, embark on a journey to some of the highest inhabited villages in the world. First, head towards Komik, the highest village in Asia at an altitude of 4,513 meters. This remote farming village, home to only 84 people, offers stunning views of soft brown pastures and snow-capped peaks. Keep an eye out for wildlife like the Tibetan wolf, blue sheep, and Himalayan griffin.
Next, make a stop at the world’s highest post office in Hikkim, where you can send a postcard and perhaps chat with the postmaster about life in this isolated village. Then, visit Langza, located at 4,400 meters, known for its rich fossil history from when the region was submerged under the Tethys Sea millions of years ago. Explore the ancient Lang Temple, dating back to approximately 1,000 years.
After a relaxing lunch in Kaza, proceed to the world-famous Ki Monastery, perched at 13,668 feet, offering panoramic views of the valley and mountains. Established in the 11th century, this monastery is a renowned center of learning and Tibetan Buddhism. Next, head to Kibber, once the highest permanently inhabited village in the region, and then further up to Gette for incredible aerial views of Kaza, where you'll tie a prayer flag.
