Journey From Haridwar to Guptkashi – Gateway to Kedarnath
The holy pilgrimage commences from Haridwar, with the divine fragrance of the Ganga Aarti still present in the atmosphere. Post early morning breakfast, we set out for a breathtaking ride to Guptkashi, covering a distance of about 220 km in 7-8 hours.
The journey takes us through awe-inspiring Himalayan vistas, lush forests, and quaint riverside hamlets, giving us a soulful experience. Along the way, we go through Devprayag, where Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers join together to become the sacred Ganga, and Rudraprayag, where Mandakini and Alaknanda Rivers join. Each such union is spiritually very important, and hence the path itself becomes as divine as the destination.
By nightfall, we arrive at Guptkashi, which is a mythological town having on its soil the sacred Vishwanath Temple and Ardh Narishwar Temple. Following the check-in at the hotel, the remaining part of the night is free to unwind and immerse ourselves in the divine environment. A replenishing dinner is in store as we gear up for the eagerly awaited trip to Kedarnath the following day.
2
Trek to the Sacred Kedarnath Dham
At the crack of dawn, we depart from Guptkashi to Sonprayag, a 30 km journey covering a distance of about 1 hour. Here, we proceed to Gaurikund, the base for the 16 km trek to the holy Kedarnath Temple. Devotees may go on the trek on foot or use pony, palki, or helicopter services to ascend in a more comfortable manner.
The trip to Kedarnath is a journey of worship and tolerance. As we drive along the narrow paths between stunning mountains, the gurgle of the Mandakini River running by the side produces a peaceful atmosphere. Along the way, we pass Jungle Chatti, Bheembali, and Linchauli, with each presenting splendid vistas of the Himalayas.
On arrival at Kedarnath, the view of the 12th Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, against the background of white snow-capped mountains, sends every pilgrim into a divine euphoria. Post-check-in at the guesthouse/camp, we attend the Kedarnath Temple, where the evening Aarti is an experience from another world. The musical chants, candlelit lamps, and spiritual aura create an unforgettable experience.
After praying for blessings, we overnight in the peaceful lap of Kedarnath, ready to descend the following day.
3
Return Journey from Kedarnath to Guptkashi
As the morning sun rises over the Kedarnath Temple, we are awoken to the divine peace of the Himalayas. Having offered prayers at dawn and catching a glimpse of the peaceful beauty of the shrine, we undertake our 16 km trek back to Gaurikund. The trek down provides another chance to soak in the stunning vistas, gushing rivers, and spiritual vibrations of the mountains.
Once we arrive at Gaurikund, we drive back to Guptkashi, a distance of 30 km, in about 1 hour. The drive is filled with nostalgia about the divine darshan and a once-in-a-lifetime experience to visit one of the holiest Jyotirlingas.
We return to Guptkashi, check into the hotel, and relax after the long but spiritually rewarding trek. The day is free at leisure, during which pilgrims may rest, explore the peaceful environment, or visit the Vishwanath Temple again. A hearty dinner is in store as we set ourselves up for the next day's travel towards Haridwar.

Return to Haridwar – Completing the Divine Journey
As the sun rises above the Himalayan mountains, we say goodbye to the holy grounds of Guptkashi and start our return journey to Haridwar, a distance of 220 km in about 7-8 hours. The picturesque drive is along the twisting roads of the Garhwal hills, with breathtaking sights of green valleys, tumbling rivers, and peaceful hill towns.
Along the way, we go through Rudraprayag and Devprayag, where confluences of sacred rivers keep reminding us of the spiritual nature of the pilgrimage. Pilgrims can make a brief stoppage to look at these spiritually valuable locations and embrace the natural beauty.
By night, we reach Haridwar, and the tour comes to its end. Haridwar opens its arms of peace and takes us back once again with the peaceful ghats and the sonorous Ganga Aarti's chants at Har Ki Pauri. After completing our Ek Dham Kedarnath Yatra, our hearts remain full of piety, humility, and eternal blessings of Lord Shiva.
