Traveling a distance of about 220 km, the journey covers around 7-8 hours, going through green valley vistas, river edges, and the untouched scenery of Uttarakhand. We go through Mussoorie, the "Queen of Hills," along the way, and a visit to the breathtaking Kempty Falls gives a welcome respite. We proceed with the drive on twisting mountain roads after basking in the scenic beauty, viewing breathtaking vistas at each turn.
On arrival at Barkot, we register at our camp/hotel and rest for the evening, gearing up for the next day's trek to Dham Yamunotri. A hearty dinner awaits, and we retire for a peaceful night's sleep before our first divine experience on this holy pilgrimage.

Trek to the Sacred Yamunotri Dham
The day starts with an early morning journey of about 45 km from Barkot to Janki Chatti in about 2 hours. Janki Chatti is the base location for the Yamunotri trek, where pilgrims take a 6 km trek to the holiest shrine of Maa Yamuna. Pony, palanquin, and palki services are also available at extra cost for those looking for convenience.
As we climb along challenging but awe-inspiring trails, the natural hot water springs at Surya Kund provide a special experience, where pilgrims boil rice as an offering to the goddess. The Divya Shila, a sacred rock close to the temple, is worshipped before entering the Yamunotri Temple, where the sacred Yamuna River begins.
Following the prayers and imbibing the spiritual atmosphere, we start the return journey to Janki Chatti and drive back to Barkot. The rest of the evening is free to relax and ponder over the divine experience. A healthy dinner is in store before we retire for the night, rejuvenating ourselves for the next leg of the journey.
3
Journey to Uttarkashi – The Land of Shiva
Following a peaceful morning in Barkot, we depart and proceed towards Uttarkashi, traveling a distance of 100 km over a period of about 4-5 hours. This charming town, lying on the shores of the sacred Bhagirathi River, is a very important spiritual center and houses several ancient temples and ashrams.

On arrival at Uttarkashi, we take a tour of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which is one of the holiest temples in honor of Lord Shiva, who is said to guard this sacred land. The temple's pious atmosphere and historical past make it a must-see destination for each pilgrim.
After obtaining blessings, we check into our accommodation and relax for the night. Pilgrims can visit the local market or just relax on the riverbank, soaking in the peace and quiet of Uttarkashi. A healthy dinner is served, readying us for the journey the next day to Gangotri Dham.

The Divine Darshan at Gangotri Dham
With hearts full of piety, we leave early from Uttarkashi to Gangotri, traversing a scenic 100 km route in about 3-4 hours. Along the way, we stop at Gangnani, a sacred hot water spring where pilgrims take a sacred dip before continuing to the holy shrine.
When we arrive in Gangotri, the place of birth of the sacred Ganges, we go to the Gangotri Temple, a very old temple for Goddess Ganga. The spiritual atmosphere of the temple, surrounded by snow-covered mountains, makes every heart peaceful and pious.
Devotees pray at Bhagirath Shila, the sacred stone on which King Bhagirath is said to have prayed to take the Ganga to Earth. The Ganga Aarti along the riverbank is an experience never to be forgotten, with the chanting and glistening diyas lightening the religious atmosphere.
Returning after obtaining blessings, we arrive in Uttarkashi by the evening, enjoying the scenery along the route. A sumptuous dinner is provided as we unwind and prepare for the journey ahead to Kedarnath.

At sunrise, we undertake a soul-provoking tour from Guptkashi to Sonprayag, a journey of 30 km in about 1 hour. We move on to Gaurikund, the religious beginning of the 16 km trek to Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
The pilgrimage is a test of faith and endurance, snaking through rugged mountains, green forests, and along the raging Mandakini River. Devotees may walk or choose pony, palki, or helicopter transport for extra comfort. We drive through Jungle Chatti, Bheembali, and Linchauli along the way, each providing breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan mountains towering above us.
On arriving at Kedarnath, the view of the holy Kedarnath Temple, resting against the snowy peaks of mountains, is really a heavenly sight. After arriving at the guesthouse/camp, we visit for the evening Aarti, in which the religious prayers, the light of diyas, and the mystical atmosphere of the temple make it a moment to remember.
